We are delighted to announce that HFCS has been awarded our first Green Flag this year. Congratulations to the whole school community for really getting behind the many changes we have made, and in particular the Green Schools committee who have worked tirelessly over the last two years to implement these changes.
HFCS was one of the first schools in Ireland to introduce a ban on single-use plastic bottles. This change was welcomed by our students and the reduction in plastic bottles going into our bins was clear to see.
We have also added recycling bins to every single classroom and our Green Schools students have educated the school community on what should go in these bins. This, along with a whole-school move towards more digital teaching and learning, has greatly reduced the amount of paper we use and also reduced the amount of waste going to landfill.
We look forward to continuing this success and our Greens Schools committee are already putting measures in place to achieve our next Green Flag!
